Card no 92 – Joy (livelife247) – Dubai, United Arab Emirates (PC46)

Joy (note the clever profile name – live life twenty-four seven) sent me her favourite card of Dubai.  And no wonder it’s her favourite – the old and the new – the traditional and the modern, so cleverly photographed.

This 2011 UAE stamp features a falcon, a significant symbol of the Arab culture. They are used for hunting and falconry is a very popular hobby among sheikhs.

This was my first card from the United Arab Emirates and takes my country total to 23.

I have seen a few different types of sticker used on cards to indicate that the card is to go air mail but this is the first time I have seen an inked stamp used.

This card arrived on 12th June, travelled 3540 miles and took 14 days.

Total so far – 278,500 miles; 23 countries (including 8 US States).

Countries from which I have received cards as at 1st June 2012 are shown in green on this map
